Green House Plants do not just make the ambiance of our homes and offices more cheery, but these plants actually improve indoor air quality by absorbing pollutants in the air.
You may wonder why should you worry about these pollutants in your home and work area ? Well they are quite common. Urea Formaldehyde can be found in adhesive binders in particle board, pressed wood products (furniture, cabinetry), floor coverings, carpet backings and permanent-press clothes. It is also utilised in consumer paper products that have been treated with UF resins, including paper towels, facial tissues, waxed papers, and grocery bags. Many common household cleaning agents contain formaldehyde. UF resins are used as stiffeners, wrinkle resisters, water repellents, and fire retardants. Other sources of formaldehyde include heating and cooking fuels like natural gas, kerosene, and cigarette smoke. It is an irritant to the eyes, nose, throat, skin, and causes headaches, asthma, and cancer.

Benzene is a regularly used solvent and it is furthermore present in many prevalent items including rubber, inks, oils, paints, plastics, and gasoline. It is included in the manufacture of dyes, explosives, pharmaceuticals, and detergents. Benzene is known as a skin and eye irritant and could be a contributing factor in chromosomal aberrations and the leukemia disease in humans. Severe breathing of high levels of benzene has long been reported to result in dizziness, weakness, euphoria, headache, nausea, blurred vision, respiratory diseases, tremors, irregular heartbeat, liver and kidney damage, paralysis, and unconsciousness.

When making a selection for a house plant, keep in mind the generally homes and offices have environments poorly suited to the needs of plants. Hence the challenge of the house plant enthusiast is to select plants that can best tolerate the indoor conditions of the specific indoor location the plant is going to go.

Select only those foliage plants that look like they are insect free and disease free. Examine the undersides of the foliage for indications of insects or disease. Select plants that appear to be sturdy, clean, nicely potted, shapely, and well-covered with leaves.

Choose plants with healthy foliage. Stay away from plants which have yellow leaves, brown leaf edges, wilted or water soaked foliage, blotches and spindly growth. In addition, avoid leaves with mechanical damage. Plants which have new flowers and leaf buds along with young growth are usually of superior quality.

Keep in mind that it is easier to obtain a plant which will probably attain what it needs within the environmental conditions your residence or office, instead of trying to alter the environment of your home or office to accommodate the plants.

So choose plants you enjoy visually, but also consider these other characteristic discussed here.
